Ways to Make it Past the Christmas Crunch
Feeling overwhelmed?
For those of you still on that mad-cap dash through Christmas, you’re probably all too aware of time. Deadlines need to be met… trees decorated… travel plans coordinated… shopping finished… wait, that’s my to-do list!
But whether or not that’s my to-do list, besides good use of prioritization and calendaring, here’s a tip to help you get through the crunch.. and onto the punch:
GET HELP
Let me say it again, in case you missed it the first time:
GET HELP
You DON’T have to go about this alone.
If you have kids, and you still need to make some last-minute shopping happen? Call those friends you schedule play-dates with and see if they’ll watch the kids for a couple hours while you finish running errands and offer to do the same while they finish their mad-dash through the malls. Or if one of your friend happens to be extra crafty and willing to sell you a hand-made scarf or soap set? Ask them!
Have a food commitment (cookies, pies?) and friend who makes awesome cheesecake? See about paying them to make that treat for you. Have errands you need to run during the day that you can’t get to? If you know a bored friend at home during the day, who would be willing to run errands for a day, pay them, offer to make them dinner, work out a trade, something. We all know people who could use a little extra money right now. If you don’t know someone who can help you out with that kind of stuff, perhaps consider checking out an errand service or personal shopper.
Reaching out to a community, even people you may not know very well can be a way to connect with people and nurture friendships, as well as help you make it through the day. Having those connections can remind you that you’re not facing the Holiday Beast alone.. Then if your in-law says something particularly rude? You already have someone you’ve connected with around the holiday stress (besides your significant other!)
If you’re the friend with a little extra time, but not a lot of cash? Let your busier friends know you’re looking to make some holiday money and are available to be a personal assistant for a day or season.
Good luck!
Kaye
